Nina M. Sousa, Esq.

I am Attorney Nina Sousa, and my life’s work has been dedicated to supporting families and children through difficult and often life-changing experiences. Long before I entered the practice of law, I devoted my career to working directly with families, juveniles, courts, schools, police, and mental health professionals. I began my work in 2002, I  proudly served as the Fall River Director for South Coast Youth Courts, a program that has allowed me to witness firsthand the resilience of young people and the importance of providing them with second chances.

In addition to my Youth Court work, I also spent time at Taunton State Hospital in an all-girls secure facility. It was there that I gained an even deeper understanding of family dynamics, trauma, self-harm, and emotional regulation. That experience shaped the way I view not only the challenges families face, but also the need for compassionate professionals who can step in to help guide them through crisis.

Today, as the founder of Sousa Family Law, I represent clients in all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, child support, alimony, guardianships, and grandparent visitation. I also serve in specialized roles as an ARC (Attorneys Representing Children), a Guardian ad Litem (GAL), a professional parenting time supervisor, and a CPCS panel attorney. These appointments allow me to bring my unique background and skills into some of the most sensitive cases, ensuring that children’s voices are heard and families receive thoughtful, well-rounded advocacy.

I opened this firm with a clear vision: to do things differently. Family law is not simply about legal filings and courtroom appearances. These cases involve real people, real children, and real lives. Every decision, every motion, and every outcome deeply affects the future of a family. For me, being an attorney is not just about applying the law but it is about caring for the whole person who is walking through what may be the hardest time of their life.

That is why we take a holistic approach to family law. This means helping clients not only navigate the legal system, but also supporting them emotionally and practically. It means assisting clients with coping strategies, emotional regulation, and identifying resources that may help outside of the case itself. I believe that the role of a family law attorney should extend beyond legal strategy—it should include compassion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to helping clients rebuild and move forward.

At Sousa Family Law, we measure our success not just by legal outcomes, but by the peace of mind and strength our clients gain along the way.
